We use our hands and wrists every day for thousands of tasks. Often these are done without thinking. So when something goes wrong with them we feel it instantly and the effects are very public and often quite painful.
As with all aspects of the superior therapy practiced at Fresh Start Physiotherapy, the right treatment can only begin after a correct diagnosis. Pain in the hand and wrist can commonly be attributed to local muscle pain, arthritis, tendon or joint injuries. However, sometimes the source may come from your neck, shoulder, elbow or elsewhere which results in pain building up in your hand.
Common sources of pain in your hand and wrist and digits include:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome;
- Fractures and dislocations;
- Trigger finger;
- Mallet finger;
- Boutonnière Deformity
- Strains and sprains;
- Crush injuries;
- Overuse, RSI / OOS; or
These are all treatable and alleviating the discomfort is essential for being able to carry out the myriad day-to-day functions for which our hands are repetitively used. Treatments may include manual therapy including massage, hand or wrist splinting, exercises and various joint mobilisation techniques.
